Description
This patch was inspired by a taistra shoulder bag woven in Bukovyna in the 1930s. The original is now held at the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore. A taistra is a traditional shoulder bag that Hutsuls used as often as we use shopping bags today. They were woven on the same looms as carpets.
The birds are depicted in a “pixelated” form that is especially characteristic of Bukovyna and Podillia, and the tradition has survived to this day.
