Sunset Patch

The “Sunset” Patch was created after a romantic seascape by Ivan Aivazovsky in collaboration with ZAG Gallery, especially for the exhibition “SEA: see beyond the sea”.

In this work, Aivazovsky stops a moment—that delicate boundary between the glow of day and the approach of darkness. The sun touches the horizon, coloring the sea with warm golden reflections, while a boat on the calm waves becomes a quiet marker of human presence before the boundlessness of the elements.

The artist himself often said that for him the sea was not merely a landscape, but a living substance that breathes, moves, and reveals its moods only to those who know how to listen. And it is in this very moment of transition—between light and shadow, between day and night—that its true depth is revealed.

“Sunset” is not only a visible landscape. It is the feeling of calm after movement, an inner silence that appears when the wave no longer struggles with the wind but simply accepts the light.

The patch preserves this atmosphere—the soft, warm, almost meditative presence of the evening sea, which speaks without words and leaves a person alone with beauty that needs no explanation.
