Sviato na Bukovyni Patch
Description
“Sviato na Bukovyni” is a patch developed in collaboration with the Ukrainian Museum of Canada in Toronto. The design is based on a carpet from the collection of John and Mary Yaremko, woven in 1971 by Hanna Lozynska.
Hanna Lozynska (1930–2018) was a renowned master of folk weaving, often called the “guardian of Ukrainian carpet weaving.”
She was born into a rural family in the Lviv region. From an early age, she was involved in traditional crafts. She graduated from the Ivan Trush Lviv School of Applied Arts, where she acquired the technical foundation that enabled her to elevate the traditional craft to a new level. Her works often feature scenes of folk life, ritual motifs, and symbols of nature and cosmogony. Her carpets are a kind of “woven chronicle.”
Today, her work is considered one of the finest examples of preserving authentic techniques and motifs in the modern world.
The carpet is held at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada.
