Description
The image on this patch comes from an early-20th-century carpet from the village of Velykyi Lis in Zhytomyr region, within the historical and geographical region of Polissia. The design was created by Yaryna Mykolaivska. The first mentions of carpets in this region date to the 10th–12th centuries in chronicles, as objects used for sacred purposes. Today, the carpet is kept at the branch of the Museum of Ethnography and Artistic Crafts of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine at 10 Rynok Square, Lviv.
