Going Courting in Toronto L Bag
Description
A tote bag is a convenient accessory for stylish walks. It has drawstring straps on the sides, a pocket for small items inside, and a carabiner for keys.
The image for this design comes from a carpet woven in Canada in 1974 by ethnic Ukrainian Olenka Frantsuz.
Between 1891 and 1914, more than 170,000 Ukrainians, mostly from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, left their homeland. When emigrating abroad, they took household objects with them, as well as the skills to make them, and passed this knowledge on to the next generations.
Today, our diaspora in Canada numbers more than 1.35 million. Large cities such as Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Toronto have Ukrainian museums, community organizations, and more than 300 Orthodox and Greek Catholic parishes around which the community gathers. Many interesting Ukrainian carpets are preserved there.
The carpet’s historical title is “My Sheep, My Sheep”. It currently belongs to the family of Tamara Ivanochko, director of the Ukrainian Museum in Toronto, Canada.
