Description
This brooch was inspired by Nataliia Chernova’s 1993 Chernihiv carpet “Flight.” Today, the carpet is held in Robert Walker’s collection in the United States. We managed to find it with the help of Chernihiv designer Olha Razanova, who kindly lent us a book about the region’s folk arts from a local library. Today, the settlement of Dihtiari is part of Chernihiv region; it once belonged to Poltava Governorate and was a major center of carpet weaving with its own school and workshops. This once again confirms the importance of studying a carpet based not only on the origin of its design, but also on the history of the locality where it was found.
