I’ll Be There Soon Patch
Description
The prototype for this patch was a carpet from the 1980s from the town of Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The subject is a horse rider. We interpreted only a small fragment of the carpet as a patch.
The original is kept at the Ethnographic Museum in Lviv at 10 Rynok Square.
Until the middle of the 19th century, the most common type of Hutsul carpet was the lizhnyk, while
flat-woven carpets were rare and found in wealthy families in Kosiv and the surrounding villages.
The situation changed in 1882, when the first weaving society opened with an operating school of
weaving and its own workshop. Thus began the history of the Hutsul carpet as
we see it in museums and books today.
The author of the original carpet was Yosyp Dzhuraniuk.
