Ana Patch
Description
The patch’s name comes from the Crimean Tatar word “Ana” — “mother.”
In every culture, the mother is a symbol of life and the memory of generations. She is the one who preserves traditions and passes on language, values, and a sense of home.
The patch’s composition is inspired by the traditional Crimean Tatar ornament Örnek, inscribed in 2021 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
At the center is a stylized female symbol, Gül, framed by plant motifs. In Örnek symbolism, they embody diligence, material prosperity, and spiritual well-being. Together, these elements create an image of harmony in which the individual, family, and tradition exist as a single whole.
The patch is made with three-dimensional embroidery, which gives the ornament a distinctive texture and depth. In this way, the traditional symbol takes on a new resonance, preserving respect for its origins while also becoming part of contemporary culture.
The patch was created based on a work by Afize Yusuf-kyzy, a Crimean Tatar singer, glass-painting artist, civic activist, and former journalist for the ATR TV channel.
