Apostol’s Flower Patch
Description
We created this patch based on a carpet from the burial site of Danylo Apostol—a monument of eighteenth-century Ukrainian carpet weaving that survived time, oblivion, and revival.
The original was found in the hetman’s family burial site in Velyki Sorochyntsi, Poltava region. The carpet arrived at the museum in 1948 in poor condition: soiled, with numerous broken threads and faded colors. It seemed silent. But in truth, it was simply waiting.
Its second life became possible thanks to restorer Tamara Babenko, who worked for decades with the carpet collection of the National Museum of Decorative Art of Ukraine.
This story is an example of how culture lives wherever it is preserved. That is why we created this patch—as a small gesture of remembrance for a great craft. For carpet weaving, which shaped Ukraine’s visual language. For the people who save beauty every day.
Wear it with thoughts of revival. Of a thread that does not break.
And of the fact that history matters when we allow it not to be forgotten.
