Description
The design of this brooch comes from an early-20th-century carpet from the village of Velykyi Lis in Zhytomyr region, in the historical and geographical region of Polissia. The design was created by Yaryna Mykolaivska. The first references to carpets in this region date to the 10th–12th centuries in chronicles, where they are described as objects used for sacred purposes. Today, the carpet is held at the branch of the Museum of Ethnography and Arts and Crafts of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine at 10 Rynok Square, Lviv.
