Soyluq Teregı means “family tree” in Crimean Tatar—one of the key symbols of the Crimean Tatar Örnek ornament. It represents the continuity of the family line, the strength of generations, connection with ancestors, and the continuation of life.
Örnek is an entire system of symbols and meanings passed from master to master for centuries. In 2021, the Crimean Tatar ornament was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The embroidery on the bag was created after a work by Afize Yusuf-qızı—a Crimean Tatar singer, glass painter, civic activist, and former journalist for ATR TV.
The image is embroidered with golden thread, symbolising what is most precious to us: our roots, family, and memory of those who came before us.
