Crimea. Ornek Patch
Description
Terek tamırlaryna tayanır, insan – tuvğanlarına.
Literally: “A tree finds support in its roots; a person, in their loved ones.”
Ornek is a traditional Crimean Tatar ornament that for centuries adorned clothing, household objects, ceramics, and especially embroidery. It is based on stylized plant and geometric motifs symbolizing life, fertility, and the unity of people with nature. In 2021, Ornek was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
We created this patch to convey the spirit of Ornek embroidery: the beauty of every line, its power as a cultural code, and its significance as part of our shared Ukrainian heritage.
Even if you had not heard of Ornek before, it is important to remember it. This is not merely an ornament; it is a unique cultural treasure that shapes our roots and our shared history. Preserving it means safeguarding memory and respect for traditions passed down through generations.
