TseSvit Socks
Description
Comfortable and beautiful socks inspired by the Carpathian bed linen with Babinsky pattern.
The inspiration for this ornament was a Gushka brand bed. His pattern, which is still popular among craftsmen, comes from the village of Babyn, Kosiv District. We named it the World, because the different colors resemble the flags of the countries of the world.
Lizhnyk is a thick woolen carpet with a voluminous surface and long
fluffy double-sided pile. In Ukraine, they were woven in the high mountain Carpathian area, where it was
enough pastures for sheep. Mostly Hutsuls were engaged in this industry. For them, the bedspread performed not only a decorative and domestic, but also a sacred mission. Lizhnyk accompanies the whole life of Hutsuls – from his birth to the end of his earthly journey. Therefore, as a universal amulet, it is used in folk rituals. This is the blessing of the children before marriage by the parents, and the gifting of the groomsmen to the young at the wedding, as well as their use in funeral rites.
Some scholars suggest that the offering of linen or other fabrics was intended for the spirits of ancestors in pre-Christian times.
